How an Accounting Firm Could Save $14,640 a Year on Stronger Identity Security

A 200-person accounting firm handles financial records, payroll information, tax documents, and other sensitive customer data every day. It already uses MFA to protect Microsoft 365, but MFA alone leaves an important gap.

Here's what that gap could look like.

Before HENNGE

An employee receives a phishing email that leads to a convincing Microsoft login page. He enters his credentials and approves the legitimate MFA request that follows.

The phishing page sits between the employee and Microsoft, relaying his password and MFA approval in real time. Microsoft issues a valid session to the attacker's server.

Without conditional access or approved-device controls checking the surrounding conditions of the sign-in, the attacker can use that authenticated session to access the account and customer data.

For the MSP, one way to add those controls through Microsoft is to move the client from Microsoft 365 Business Standard to Business Premium.

After HENNGE

With HENNGE Identity, the MSP adds conditional access and device certificates while the client stays on its existing Microsoft 365 plan.

Now the same attack plays out differently. The phishing page still relays the employee's login attempt, but HENNGE Identity evaluates the access request before access is granted.

The request comes from an unknown IP, arrives outside the firm's normal working hours, and doesn't present the device certificate required by the policy. Any of those conditions can cause the sign-in to be denied.

The attacker may have the employee's password and MFA approval, but those credentials never become a usable session because the access request doesn't meet the firm's policy.

The MSP gets stronger control over how the client accesses Microsoft 365 without requiring a Microsoft licensing upgrade.

The client saves $14,640 a year

On Microsoft's flexible monthly billing, Business Standard costs $16.80 per user/month and Business Premium costs $26.40 per user/month.

That's an additional $9.60 per user/month to upgrade.

For 200 employees:

Microsoft upgrade:

$9.60 × 200 users × 12 months

= $23,040/year

HENNGE Identity:

$3.50 × 200 users × 12 months

= $8,400/year

Maximum savings:

$14,640

/year

  • The price difference also gives the MSP room to build margin into the service.

  • At $3.50 per user/month, there's up to $6.10 per user/month of pricing room before reaching the cost of the Microsoft upgrade.

  • For example, pricing HENNGE Identity at $5.50 per user/month would still save the client $9,840 per year while creating $4,800 in gross annual profit for the MSP.

Pricing Note: This comparison uses Microsoft’s flexible monthly subscription pricing to match HENNGE Identity’s flexible monthly billing. Even with an annual Microsoft commitment, HENNGE Identity still saves $4.50 per user every month.
