Cyber insurance renewal can quickly expose the difference between having MFA and having control over when and how access is allowed.
This 150-person manufacturer was already using Microsoft 365 Business Standard with MFA in place. The problem was that its existing setup couldn't apply different access rules based on the device, network, location, application, or user.
That became a problem when renewal time came around.
Before HENNGE
The manufacturer already had Microsoft's baseline MFA protections, but its insurer wanted stronger access controls around sensitive systems.
The company needed policies that could do more than ask for a second factor. It needed to control access based on the circumstances of the login, such as whether the device was approved, where the connection came from, and which users were accessing sensitive applications.
Microsoft Security Defaults doesn't provide that level of customization. Getting Conditional Access through Microsoft would require additional licensing, such as moving the client from Microsoft 365 Business Standard to Business Premium.
During the renewal, those gaps in the manufacturer's access controls contributed to a quote with a 25% premium increase and a ransomware sub-limit.
After HENNGE
With HENNGE Identity, the MSP adds conditional access while the client stays on its existing Microsoft 365 plan.
The MSP can apply policies around email, administrative access, and remote access based on conditions such as device approval, network, time, user, and group.
That gives the manufacturer more control over how sensitive systems are accessed without requiring a Microsoft licensing upgrade.
With those controls in place, the manufacturer addresses the access-control gaps identified during its renewal and renews at its existing premium with full ransomware coverage.
The client saves $10,980 a year
On Microsoft's flexible monthly billing, Business Standard costs $16.80 per user/month and Business Premium costs $26.40 per user/month.
That's an additional $9.60 per user/month to upgrade.
For 150 employees:
Microsoft upgrade:
$9.60 × 150 users × 12 months
= $17,280/year
HENNGE Identity:
$3.50 × 150 users × 12 months
= $6,300/year
Maximum savings:
$10,980
/year
The price difference also gives the MSP room to build margin into the service.
At $3.50 per user/month, there's up to $6.10 per user/month of pricing room before reaching the cost of the Microsoft upgrade.
For example, pricing HENNGE Identity at $5.50 per user/month would still save the client $7,380 per year while creating $3,600 in annual recurring margin for the MSP.
Pricing Note: This comparison uses Microsoft’s flexible monthly subscription pricing to match HENNGE Identity’s flexible monthly billing. Even with an annual Microsoft commitment, HENNGE Identity still saves $4.50 per user every month.
Have a client renewing soon?
Cyber insurance renewal gives MSPs a natural reason to review where a client's access controls may still be too broad.
HENNGE Identity gives MSPs another way to add conditional access without forcing the client to upgrade its Microsoft licenses.
